"But I own that I cannot see as plainly as others do, and I should wish to do, evidence of design and beneficence on all sides of us. There seems to me too much misery in the world. I cannot persuade myself that a beneficent and omnipotent God would have designedly created that a cat should play with mice."

No News is Good News
Moms Landrith was cranky back there in Florida today because her girls were *forcing* her to eat chocolate candy and cashew nuts, not to mention nutritious citrus drinks.
years ago, in the early 1980s, my grandfather lived with us. he lived until 96. by the time he came to live with us, he was fully blind.
one of his huge joys (as well as mine, too!) was going to this italian restaraunt called cafe roma. despite his blindness, he would take much time to ready himself - bath, shave, put on his best clothes.
i was too young to understand what was happening but i was able to understand that something odd was happening - why would a blind man be so vain? and my dad, that wise soul, would pull me aside gently and say something to the effect of, "david, with grandpa, vanity is good. it means he cares."

indeed, vanity, at times, is good. so is cranky.
