"But I own that I cannot see as plainly as others do, and I should wish to do, evidence of design and beneficence on all sides of us. There seems to me too much misery in the world. I cannot persuade myself that a beneficent and omnipotent God would have designedly created that a cat should play with mice." -- Charles Darwin, Letter to Asa Gray

All I see below the Fade To Cat headline is a blank rectangular field. Surely you learned more than that this weekend.
This was so very lovely with a touch of snark ('please oh God don't let me drop the baby').

i love this piece.
the music, the visual edits, and, of course, the writing are all superb.
the shag-interiored vehicle deserves a video history of its own.
how easy was this to make?
Brother Silver asks the key question. The answer is: really pretty easy. Easier than I thought it would be.
Mike -- I love your film. The pictures of you and Eydie are fabulous. Feel free to borrow my children -- maybe this weekend??? But I cannot reciprocate as I am allergic to cats. A small tragedy in my life to have missed out on cats.

I saw the news this morning about Salman Rushdie and Lakshmi, and for some reason I thought of you. Oh, right - your blog is in my favorites as Salman Rushdie's Cat..... I hopped on, and then, this absolutely charming, beautifully crafted video. I like that beard; and is it Dexter (or Lester) in the background? Sublime....
That's "In a Sentimental Mood" by the Modern Jazz Quartet. Beautiful stuff.
Nice!
And I had the very same model eyeglasses, "Goldwaters," throughout the 60s.
Ken Burns (the Master of Pan & Scan) proved - and you reminded us - that you don't need pictures that move to make moving pictures.

michael,
david instructed me to watch your piece when i had time, as it wasn't something to be rushed. against his wishes i fired up my computer just before leaving for work, and then left our home tear-streaked, yet with a smile on my face. bittersweet, as they say. such a well-crafted bit of tenderness, sentiment, and joy, and not a bad way to start off my day.
